A classical mahogany long case or grandfather clock with tubular chimes is all original from about 1910. Signed "Math. Bauerle, St. Georgen, Germany," this antique clock is in excellent running condition.
The solid mahogany case with shaped columns has some wear and crazing or fine crackling from age for antique character, see photos. Beveled glass is in the front lower door panel, the lock and key work. Side doors open for access to the movement. The intricately embossed gold and silver plated dial is exquisite, the hand painted moon dial is above.
The signed brass movement keeps accurate time for a week on a winding. The familiar "Westminster" chime melody from Big Ben on Parliament in London plays each quarter hour and the hour is counted as well. Five nickel chime tubes have resonant tone. The winding crank is a modern replacement.
Measurements are 23" wide, 17" deep and 79" tall.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
