A spectacular hall bench was carved of oak about 1890, and signed "J & G Adrian,Wiesbaden," the famous spa town in Germany. Made for "Dr. Hasselmann," the family coat of arms is deeply carved into the crest.
The seat is revarnished for durability, the rest of the original finish is very well preserved and has been waxed and buffed. All that is needed to maintain the warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth.
There are gargoyles and lion paw feet on this antique furniture. The seat lifts for storage, and there are raised panels and expertly hand cut dovetail joints on the back.
Dimensions are 46" wide, 20" deep, 52" tall and the seat is 18" high.
