This beautiful 1850's Italian marquetry and black lacquer clock has a reverse hand-painted glass dial and brass bezel. An original label and embossed stamp show the maker in Genoa in northern Italy. The ebonized frame is hinged at the top to lift for weekly winding. Surrounding the dial is intricate hand-made marquetry in mahogany, walnut, ebony and fruitwood. There are shrinkage separations and irregularity due to age on the frame and also in the marquetry, see photos.
The brass 8 day movement has been professionally cleaned and oiled, and keeps excellent time with a strike on the hour and half.
This charming antique clock retains its original brass pendulum, and size is 23" high, 20" wide and 5" deep.
