An enchanting 1906 statue of "L'Enfant au Canard," a child with a duck, is signed by famous French sculptor, "Auguste Moreau." The old finish is in very fine condition on cast "spelter" metal, an alloy of white metal similar to pewter.
Signatures, date and foundry stamp marks are embossed into the base and engraved on the brass label below. August Louis Mathurin Moreau (1834-1917) was one of the best known artists of the celebrated Moreau family of sculptors. He worked in Paris from 1861- 1910 during the Art Nouveau period.
This graceful sculpture of a realistic young child with flowing garb, caught seemingly unaware in a natural setting, is characteristic of his beloved works of art. His expressive works are in countless museums around the world.
