Hand-made with square nails about 1860, this charming solid pine jelly cupboard is said to be from Pennsylvania. The finish is excellent with warm patina and lots of character, stains, mars and wear to show its age.
The back is rough sawn and attached with square nails on this very rugged country furniture, designed to hold the entire jam and jelly supply from the fall harvest for the rest of the year. There was always a lock to reduce "shrinkage" from hungry children on these nostalgic cabinets - the door lock is missing. Door panels are chamfered inside, drawers have hand-cut dovetails.
Measurements of this American antique furniture with an arched gallery are 45" wide, 18 1/2" deep and 46" tall.
