This stately Victorian bookcase has a carved three dimensional bust of Gen. and President U. S. Grant on the crest.
Crafted of solid walnut about 1870, the satiny finish is excellent. The interior is painted, the original varnished shelves were once adjustable on wooden supports, but they presumably sagged in the center, so vertical supports were placed in the middle to stabilize the shelves, and they would have to be changed to adjust the shelves as originally intended.
The base is separate for easier moving. This historic American bookcase has deep moldings and beautiful proportions, the original wavy glass is nostalgic. Measurements of this grand bookcase are 6' 5" wide, 20" deep and 8' 6" tall.
