Originally a newel post lamp, this beautiful figural lamp is signed by famous French sculptor, Ernest Rancoulet.
A naturalistic couple is shown with the man's metalworking tools - anvil, hammer and pincers. The young woman has a beautifully draped flowing gown. This evocative statue is patinated spelter, a pewter-like alloy with picturesque historic charm. There is just enough wear to the dark bronze patina to give a little character.
Signed in the base, "Rancoulet," the artist's dates are 1870-1915 - he was well known for natural poses in sculpture, with Art Nouveau influence.
This antique artwork dates from the 1890's, and there is a switch at the back. Other than a dent on the right side of the round base, we see no damage or repairs.
