These six traditional French Brittany folk carved dining chairs have spiral legs and grapevine motif hand carving. They are solid chestnut, with a handle cutout on top.
The hand caned seats are all intact, and frames are sturdy and ready to use on this antique furniture from the 1890's.
Brittany or Bretagne is a maritime province of northwest France. Formerly a separate country, the "Breton" language is still spoken. Famous for their cultural traditions and distinctive dress, the local hand-carved furniture has outstanding workmanship, using native local hardwoods with picturesque traditional motifs. The finish is excellent on this heirloom furniture, which traditionally descended with the daughters of a family, as part of their dowry.
Size of these charming chairs is 18" wide, 18" deep, 42" tall, and the seats are 18" high.
