A solid oak 1930's era tall case or grandfather clock plays the familiar "Westminster" chime melody from Big Ben in London every quarter hour and strikes the hour as well.
The original 8 day brass movement has been professionally cleaned and oiled, keeping excellent time.
Cast in brass with deeply embossed angels, the dial is engraved "Tempus Fugit," Latin for Time Flies. The hour or chapter ring has Roman numerals.
All original with a very fine satiny finish, the case has wooden pegs and raised panels. All three doors have heavy weight hinges and latches. The lower glass is shaped and beveled. Three brass weights are wound by pulling the chains.
This is elegant country furniture, expertly crafted in Sweden. Dimensions are 21" wide, 11" deep and 87" tall.
This clock needs to be "set up" when delivered - weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. Most of our customers can do this as we walk them through the fairly simple steps by phone. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
