This miniature version of the famous Lion Monument of Lucerne, Switzerland was hand carved of bone. The original dying lion was a memorial to the Swiss Guards who defended Louis XVI in 1792 during the French Revolution.
Translation of the Latin inscription is "To the loyalty and bravery of the Swiss." Size is 3 3/4" long and 1 1/2" wide.
