An outstanding Victorian quarter-sawn oak rolltop desk has raised panels, exceptional warm color and beautiful natural grain. The satiny finish is excellent, with glowing warm patina and just enough character - mars and wear to show its age.
The roll operates smoothly, inside are tiny cubicles, files and tiny drawers plus mail slots at the ends. Brass pulls and label holders are original from about 1900. Two banks of deep drawers have dovetailed joinery, there is a large file drawer and two pull-out shelves Raised panel sides and drawerfronts are finished all around. This antique furniture shows superior American craftsmanship from about 1900.
The upper section is removable for easier moving. Size is 5' long, 36" deep, 42 1/2" tall, the writing surface is 30 1/2" high and the generous kneehole is 24" wide and 25" tall.
