An authentic antique carved of solid walnut about 1870, this dropfront secretary desk has a bookcase top with glass doors and adjustable shelves. Drawers have carved pulls and hand-cut dovetails, and there are matched burl panels on the front. Square nails show on the rough sawn back.
The drop front is supported by pulling out the drawers below, and there is a leather writing surface. Tiny drawers and compartments inside have old India ink stains. The finish has wonderful warm color and patina, with charming wear and mars.
For easier moving, the bookcase is a separate piece, and dimensions are 47" wide, 6'4" tall and the drop front is 30" above the floor. This piece has been rephotographed and relisted.
