An authentic antique from the late Victorian or Eastlake period, a graceful cylinder or barrel rolltop desk has a bookcase top.
Solid walnut, the roll is matched burl, and the glowing medium brown finish is superb all around. The leather writing surface pulls forward, behind are tiny compartments and a drawer, notice old inkstains.
The upper section is separate, with adjustable shelves and old wavy glass, notice shrinkage separations in the back panels. There is incised "spoon" or "chip" carving, typical of the 1880's. Drawers are dovetailed, the embossed hardware is original on this historic American furniture.
Measurements are 7'1" tall, 40 1/2" wide, 21" deep and the writing surface is 30" above the floor.
