This hall or "pier" mirror has a marble shelf and the original ebony finish. It was crafted in the late Victorian or Eastlake period about 1875. Solid cherry, the original ebony finish is accented with subtle gold in the incised grooves and chip or "spoon" carving. There are small mars at the edges, but the finish is remarkable for its age. The marble shelf is also in very good condition on this American antique furniture.
Such tall and narrow mirrors were used in hallways, stair landings and between windows to reflect and enhance gaslight. The original wavy glass has a few small silver losses at the bottom, it could be resilvered if desired. Measurements of this elegant mirror are 28" wide, 13" deep and 7' 10" tall.
