This mahogany antique clock is in wonderful condition, and one of the finest Victorian grandfather or tall case clocks we have had. Westminster chimes resonate on the quarter hour, and the clock also strikes the hour. Made about 1875, the case is 8 1/2' tall and the brass mounts are beautiful, especially the filigree dial. Weights and pendulum are also brass, gleaming from behind the shaped beveled glass in the door.
The large movement is beautifully machined and weighs over 70 lbs, and the 3 weights total 65 lbs. The only signature we can see is engraved on the back of the movement, "LFS 39." Our clockmaker cleaned, oiled and regulated this mechanism, and reported very little wear, presumably because of regular maintenance and lubrication.
The polished finish on the well proportioned case is superb, and there are access doors on the side to reach the silent levers for the chimes. The moon dial is handpainted, and does not operate. A winding crank appears original, and dimensions are 2' wide, 14" deep and 8 1/2' tall. The last photo is an 8X10 black and white portrait where this clock was a prized possession in a Victorian home.
