Item# V-18807 WEBO
This sculpture signed by "John Rogers of NY" captures the moment in Longfellow's Pilgrim poem, "The Courtship of Miles Standish," where the independent minded Priscilla asks John Alden, who is requesting her hand in marriage from the shy Standish, "Why don't you speak for yourself, John?."
The statue is signed "Pat. Feb 10, 1885," and is reinforced "chalk" or plaster composition. There are minor touchups to the original painted finish on this American made work of art.
Dimensions are 18" wide, 14" deep and 22" tall.
