A traditional "coromandel" six panel screen from China depicts an imperial garden and pavilion scene, the back has bird and flower motifs and is about 50 years old.
The classical technique is to paint many layers of colored lacquer, topped by black, then carefully carving into those colored layers to "reveal" the design. There are minor touchups to this Asian vintage furniture.
Panels are 16" wide, 1" deep and 6' tall, so if flat on a wall, width is 8,' in accordion folded as shown, width is about 6.'
