A palatial cabinet was hand carved in Holland about 1880 of solid oak in Holland. This opulent furniture would have been the showpiece of a wealthy young woman's dowry, filled with silver and linens.
Masterfully sculpted motifs include lion heads, fruit, cornucopia or horns of plenty and a gargoyle. The top of the base has been revarnished for durability, the rest of the original finish is very well preserved. Waxed and buffed, all that is needed to maintain the soft luster is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. Cast brass hardware has heads as well, locks and individual keys work. Drawers have hand cut dovetail joints and sides have raised panels on this Dutch antique. The upper section is a separate piece for easier transport. The lavishly carved crown, fluted columns and upper gallery with acorns are authentic.
Measurements are 67" wide, 26" deep and 97" tall, the base is 40" high.
