A heavy weight solid cast brass fireplace trivet or "iron footman" would have sat on a hearth to hold a teakettle or jam pot to simmer in the fire.
Made in England about 1870, this antique fireplace accessory has warm patina. It appears to be lacquered, this would need to be stripped off if using in a fire again.
Size is 24" wide including the folding handles, 16" deep and 12" tall.
