This monumental bookcase was hand carved of solid oak about 1890 with dogs, lion heads and game motifs. Deeply sculpted figures and spiral columns are characteristic of the traditional artistry in the Black Forest, where Germany, France and Switzerland meet.
The restored finish is in excellent condition on this antique library furniture. Shelves adjust on wooden supports, the upper section is removable for easier delivery. There are various warps from age, see photos.
Drawers have hand cut dovetail joints and carved lion head pulls. There are keys for the lower doors only. The back side is hand planed with chamfered panels.
Dimensions are 80" wide at the crown, 22" deep and 105" tall, the base is 38" high.
