Lions, heads and fruit were hand carved in three dimension about 1880 on this solid oak bookcase or kitchen pantry cabinet from France. There are hand planing marks, warps and shrinkage separations from age on this antique library furniture. Joints are secured with carved wooden pegs, and the back is also paneled in solid oak.
The top of the separate base cabinet has been varnished for durability. The rest of the old finish is very well preserved. Waxed and buffed, all that is needed to maintain the warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth.
Drawers have hand cut dovetail joints and original pulls. Door are deeply paneled with working locks and keys.
Measurements are 85" wide at the crown, 99" tall and 22" deep, the base is 42" high.
