This wonderful dowry chest or trunk bears the hand painted coats of arms or crests of both families plus historic scenes. The date "1327" would be the date of the original chest.
This hand carved example is from around 1800, and would have descended with a daughter, filled with linens and silver for her dowry to move with her after her marriage.
Hand hewn of pine, there is raised enamel painting on the dome shaped top. The artistic original painting has some wear and is preserved with clear varnish.
Every surface is hand planed on this antique heirloom furniture from Italy. Corners have hand cut dovetail joints, hinges are later. There are significant shrinkage separations from age, see photos.
Size is 43" long, 18" deep and 26" tall.
