This "campaign" chest or trunk was hand made from solid wide planks of genuine rosewood, and would make a striking coffee table. Built for British military officers to be taken on military campaigns, the inlaid solid brass corners and recessed handles are functional.
Crafted in British India with hand cut dovetail corner joints about 1900, this furniture is very heavy. Rosewood is one of the few woods that do not float in water.
The older glossy finish preserves just enough dings and mars for a little antique character.
