A pair of statues depict a young woman with an empty basket, "Retour du Marcher, " or "Return from the Market," signed "Skinsburger." The other sculpture is a man with a scythe for harvesting wheat. Both were cast in spelter metal, a pewter like alloy about 60 years ago.
Sylvain Skinsburger was born and died in Paris, and lived 1855-1935. His sculptures are found in collections, museums and parks all over France. These two convey his naturalistic work, seemingly unposed figures.
Size is 9" across, 7" deep and 20" tall.
