This bronze sculpture of Fortuna, the Roman goddess of fortune and luck is from about 1880, after the famous Renaissance statue originally at the Piazza della Signoria in Florence, Italy.
The renowned sculptor of the original, Giovanni de Giambologna lived 1529-1608. This antique from Italy was a "Grand Tour" acquisition, bought by a wealthy American on a traditional lengthy European sojourn.
This antique work of art has a rich original deep charcoal patina with a few scratches, see photos. Movement and grace of this figure are unforgettable. The pedestal is black marble with a frieze of musical cupids in high relief.
Size is 10" by 7" by 33 1/2" tall.
