A cast iron "fire mark" from the early 1800's was mounted in front of a house that belonged to and paid a volunteer fire department, in the days before cities provided that public service.
The story was that the fire department that this embossed plaque indicated would only fight "subscriber's" fires. This is disputed in many histories.
The old worn iron finish is charming with nice antique patina.
Size is 11" x 9" and 1" deep.
