An authentic 1790 era armoire from France would be useful as a pantry cupboard, bookcase or display cabinet. Solid cherry in front, sides and back are oak on this historic furniture.
The finish is in very fine condition - waxed and buffed, an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth will maintain its warm antique patina. Interior shelves are removable, glass panes are later. Crown and doors are removable. Every board of the wormy cherry and oak is charmingly irregular, hand planed and shaped. Hardware and hinges are original, the large iron lock still works. Joints are secured with hand carved wooden pegs, the back side shows hand sawn and shaped planks. There are various warps to the hand hewn hardwood boards, especially in the doors, see photos.
Measurements of this elegant Country French piece are 59" wide at the crown, 54" wide in the body, 26" deep, 7' 5" tall and interior depth is 21."
