Authentic New England Chippendale design is to be noted in this exquisite high boy or chest on chest. It dates from about 1790 and has four carved claw and ball feet. Every surface is hand-planed, drawers have hand cut dovetails with chamfered bottoms, and there are square cut nails on the hand-sawn backside. The upper section lifts off for easy handling, and the solid walnut has wonderful grain and a very warm glowing finish in excellent condition.
The hardware was replaced long ago, and there are plugged holes from earlier pulls. While it is not visible from the front or sides, the base was rebuilt over 100 years ago - see photos of the backside and the drawer dovetails.
Said to be from upstate New York, this period furniture with American heritage is in solid condition. Measurements are 43" wide, 26" deep and 6' tall.
