This carved art case grand piano is signed by famous American piano builder, "Baldwin," and dates from 1938.
The golden mahogany case appears to have been expertly refinished about 30-40 years ago, enhancing the shimmering natural "tiger" grain. There are small mars at the edges, a scratch on the key cover plus some crazing or crackling from age on the finish, see photos.
This musical instrument has lovely warm tone that Baldwin is known for. Original ivories have a few chips, see photos. There are two lid supports for high and low positions. Mechanical action is not stiff but easy to play.
Restringing and some rebuilding was done, probably at the time of the case restoration. The soundboard is in very fine condition, with a few shrinkage separations from age that do not affect the sound.
Measurements with the lid closed are 5' 2" long, 58" wide and 39" tall.
