Brittany or Bretagne is a maritime province of northwest France, famous for distinctive folk art dowry furniture like this wonderful cupboard or bar cabinet, one of the finest we have ever seen.
- Hand-carved furniture has outstanding workmanship, using native local chestnut hardwood with picturesque traditional motifs
- Royal crest alludes to Brittany as an independent country before takeover by the French
- Antique 1900s French furniture, intended for a bride's dowry
- Deeply carved with spindles, dogs, vines & leaves, and a bust of a woman
- Large carved portrait plaque of a couple is signed "F. Martin"
- Original finish has been waxed and buffed, preserving dings, warps, & shrinkage separations. All that is needed to maintain the soft luster is an occasional wipe with a soft, dry cloth.
- Brass hardware is original, working lock and key
