A spectacular French mantle clock set from the 1890's has a sculpture "L'Indiscret" or "Indiscreet," signed by famed artist, "Mathieu Moreau." The clock is signed on the movement and dial, "Comptoir General, Paris."
A silvery bell counts the hour and half hour. The brass movement keeps excellent time and runs for a week on a winding. The original shop name and Paris address are also hand painted on the porcelain dial.
The famous Moreau family of sculptors has works in museums around the world. A beautiful young lady is looking over her shoulder in the forest, watched over by a cupid or angel, her "indiscretion" can only be imagined.
The statue and side urns are spelter, a white metal alloy with a very fine original dark bronze patinated finish. All three antique pieces have marble bases with only very minor flakes at the edges. Feet have a dark gold finish.
Clock measurements are 14" wide, 27" tall and 9" deep not including the coppery finished shell shaped jewelry holder on the base. Urns are 7" wide, 6" deep and 19" tall.
