This magnificent armoire was hand carved about 1770 in northern Italy of solid walnut with burl panels and inlaid banding.
The old finish is very well preserved with warm antique patina and just enough mars and shrinkage separations from age for character. Waxed and buffed, all that is needed to maintain its warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth.
Hand hewn, planing marks plus hand cut dovetail joinery show the work of a master craftsman. The wrought iron giant lock and key are original and work. Hand wrought hinges and pulls are beautiful.
This European furniture can be disassembled for moving. Removable pine shelves inside are later, interior depth is 21," functional for a closet. The shaped crown, deep moldings and bun feet are very well proportioned.
Measurements at the crown are 6' 10 1/2" wide, the body is 6' wide, 29" deep and just under 7' tall.
