A stunning bar cabinet, sideboard or console from Italy is genuine rosewood, mahogany and tulipwood, inlaid with delicate banding and intricate marquetry in exotic woods, and dates from about 1930.
This captures the style of one of Italy's most famous cabinetmakers, Giuseppe Maggiolini, who lived 1738-1814. Renowned across Europe, he created furniture for royalty, including the Empress Maria Theresa of Austria, Napoleon's widow the Empress Maria Luisa and the King of Poland.
This example of "Maggiolini" design has a gleaming finish in excellent condition, enhancing the warm patina. There are only minor mars at the edges.
When the center drop front opens, an automatic light turns on, rewired for American electricity. Inside is a mirror at the back, there are rings from bottles on the floor inside, see photos. Locks and keys work on this aristocratic hand crafted furniture.
Measurements are 63" wide, 20" deep and 39 1/2" tall.
