Midcentury Modern Bar Room with Onyx & Inlaid Floor

This magnificent midcentury modern bar and room with an inlaid hardwood floor was originally installed in a lavish apartment residence in Sweden in the 1950's, today termed "Midcentury Modern."

Built of matched mahogany and teak with a warm reddish brown original finish, this retro architectural salvage is stunning. The bar top is a spectacular single slab of richly grained onyx. A floor of inlaid marquetry includes rosewood, walnut, and oak.

The bar itself rests on brass columns on a 4" tall raised platform. Lighting is built into the ceiling, additional rope lighting on the shelves was added later.

This room is an irregular shape, and there was originally an enclosed pillar or airshaft that could today be used for storage or a refrigerator - see plan.

It is in remarkable condition for its age with only very minor mars and a little fading. The solid brass posts make the bar appear to be floating in air. This striking bar ensemble - really more like a room - looks like it is straight from a James Bond movie of the period.

It is 8' 4 1/2" tall, with the air shaft a few inches taller. There are a few extra pieces. The gorgeous onyx has spectacular color with a few scratches and blemishes to the resin bartop finish.

This bar is exceptionally well made with precise mitered corners and joints. There is plenty of storage, and this bar/room disassembles for moving. A floor plan with dimensions is shown, this could be modified for many settings.
