Entirely crafted by hand about 1840, a curved top pine trunk or chest was probably brought to America from northern Europe by an immigrant.
The original folk artist hand painting is worn and has beautiful patina. Wrought iron hardware, including the working lock and key are original. Hand-planed boards are secured by carved wooden pegs and hand made nails.
There is lots of character - losses to the bottom edges, separations, mars and wear. Inside this picturesque furniture is a tiny compartments for treasures with a carved lid.
There are worn monograms and a date "18?8" that are difficult to decipher. Measurements of this historic antique treasure chest are 4' 6" long, 25" deep and 26" tall.
