Handmade in Pennsylvania about 1840, this country pine chest is actually a commode or washstand with a lift lid - often referred to as a "bonnet box."
There is space inside for a bowl and pitcher. Below is a drawer with chamfered bottoms and hand-cut dovetails. The top is warped, see photo, and every surface is hand planed. This charming antique has loads of character - stains and wear with beautiful golden patina, the finish is very fine.
Size is 30" wide, 18" deep and 31" tall.
