Vestal Virgins, E. Forti Rome 1880's Colored Print

An exquisite print of the famous cult of Vestal Virgins of ancient Rome is after a painting signed "E. Forti, Roma," (Rome), and dates from the 1880's.
Printed underneath the mat are inscriptions "Painted by E. Forti," and the engraver's name, "Blechinger & Leykauf, Vienna." Originally printed in a soft gray or sepia tone, this lovely picture was then exquisitely hand painted with finely detailed watercolors that are still remarkably vivid over a century later. The original gold finished frame has been retouched, the thick mat and wavy glass appear original.
Descended through the generations of a Wisconsin family, this classical work of art is truly lovely. The image is 27" x 16", overall frame size is 40" wide and 29" tall.
