This bronze bust of a woman is signed by Dutch/Belgian sculptor, "Toon Dupuis," and dates from around 1930. On the back of this original work of art are the foundry marks from Brussels (Bruxelles), Belgium, where this sculpture was cast.
Depicting a naturalistic and joyous pose, her face is turned to the side. The deep patina is beautiful, the black marble base has natural hairlines on the back side, see photos.
Famous in Europe, Dupuis is noted for a public statue erected in 1918 in Dordrecht, Holland. His statue of Peter Stuyvesant, founder of New York City, is at St. Mark's Church in Manhattan, a gift from Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands in 1915.
The artist lived from 1877- 1944, studied at the Academy of Art in Anvers, France and exhibited at the Brussels World's Fair in 1910.
Size of this life size sculpture is 15" wide, 11" deep and 22" tall.
