A bookbinder's book press and cabinet was hand hewn of solid oak about 1800 in England. The restored finish preserves lots of stains and mars for antique character. Handles turn a giant wooden screw to flatten large books up to 25" x17." A press this large may also have been used for linens.
Three graduated drawers below have hand cut dovetail joints, brasses are replaced and this historic furniture has no key for the locks.
There are visible hand cut nailheads plus various restorations over the centuries, the base is rebuilt.
Measurements are 30" wide, 18" deep and 67" tall, the top of the base is 33" high.
