A superlative dining set from the 1920's is signed "Scholles, Chicago," and includes a table with 5 leaves and 8 chairs.
Richly carved of walnut with matched burl panels and curly striped maple banding, the restored gleaming finish is in excellent condition. There is "crackled" distressing for an antique effect, especially on the the chair backs.
Opulent carving is masterful on this stellar American made antique furniture. The table has trestle bases plus a pair of center legs for extra support. Five original matching leaves have aprons or skirts. They have a slight curved warp in the center from storage and age, see photos.
Dimensions are 45" wide, 30" tall, legroom is 25" and length when closed is 70," with all five 10" wide leaves in place, length is 10' overall. Chairs have dramatic lines and recent European upholstery with nailhead trim. There are some tiny thread snags on the sides of the seats.
Two armchairs measure 29" wide, 26" deep, 44" tall, wide seats are 19" high and 17" deep. Six side chairs are 22" wide, 25" deep, 42" tall and seats are 16" deep.
