"Village Roofs, Vermont" is the title of this original oil painting on canvas, signed "Elliot Torrey," and said to be from 1933.
Elliot Bouton Torrey was born in Vermont in 1867, and studied and worked in Boston, Paris and New York before moving to southern California in 1923. His work is in numerous museums and collections.
Bold and highly textured brushwork is characteristic of this noted artist's work.
This work of art was exhibited at the San Diego Museum of Art, loaned to the U. S. Dept of State for its Art in Embassies program. There is a modern back that we have not disassembled or inspected the back of the canvas.
The carved frame has a dark burnished bronze tone with some wear, see photos.
Overall size is 45" wide, 36" tall and 2" deep.
