This graceful armchair was hand carved of solid walnut in Italy about 1840. The comfortably curved back has a pierced splat, joints have carved wooden pegs. The seat is modern faux leather on this library desk or occasional furniture.
The old finish is in very fine condition with lots of stains and mars, waxed and buffed so all that is needed to maintain the warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. There have been various restorations over the years, and the frame is sturdy, reglued to serve another generation.
Dimensions are 25" wide, 24" deep, 37 1/2" tall and the seat is 18" high.
