This classic hand carved country hall bench from Ohio may have served as a deacon's bench in a church, or in a railroad station or barber shop. Dating from about 1840, the deep seat and angled back are more comfortable than usual. Solid poplar, birch and oak hardwoods were used in this charming rustic antique furniture.
The old dark finish has been preserved with clear varnish. There are lots of mars, losses, wear and some restorations for character. Reglued to serve another generation, the frame is strong and tight.
Measurements are 86" long, 23" deep, 35" tall and the seat is 18" high.
