A very grand hall bench was hand hewn of solid oak and richly carved in the Renaissance manner about 1780 in Italy. Lavish sculpting with arch motifs and spiral columns is artistic. There are various restorations over the centuries.
The old finish is very well preserved, and has been waxed and buffed so all that is needed to maintain the warm antique patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. There are mars, losses and shrinkage separations from age.
There is no key for the wrought iron lock. Carved wooden pegs and square cut nails are visible on this historic furniture.
Measurements are 70" wide tip to tip, 25" deep, 60" tall and the seat is 20" high.
