A wonderful traditional secretary desk and bookcase from the 1920's has original black lacquer with hand painting and raised enamel in the Chinese manner or "Chinoiserie." The interior is contrasting red lacquer, also hand painted.
Ball and claw feet, double arched top and the serpentine curved front are authentic on this American made antique furniture. No maker's signature survives.
The original outside finish has been preserved with satin varnish, the interior desk area shows wear, see photos. There are secret drawers, and when the drop front is opened, brass mechanisms push out "automatic" supports. A key operates the locks on the bookcase and dropfront only.
Shelves are adjustable. For easier delivery, the bookcase is removable.
Measurements are 39" wide, 22" deep, 83" tall and the desk top is 29" high.
