A wonderful "camel back" immigrant trunk was hand crafted and painted and dated "1796." Original folk art painting inside and out is similar to Norwegian rosemaling. Probably a dowry chest, corners have hand cut dovetail joints on this northern European antique farmhouse furniture.
The original finish is very well preserved, and has waxed and buffed so all that is needed to maintain the warm patina is an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth. There are losses to the wrought iron mounts plus shrinkage separations from age on this rugged historic antique furniture. The lock does not work.
Size is 37" wide, 21" tall and 20" deep.
