Japanese Antique Yatate or Copper Calligraphy Brush Holder and Inkwell #38291

This Japanese Yatate or calligraphy brush holder and inkwell was hand made of solid copper. Vines wrap the length of the brush holder and covered inkwell.

Yatate date from Medieval Japan and deviated from the earlier Chinese practice of ink stones for calligraphy, this example is about 100 years old.

Size is 10 1/2" long, 1 1/2" wide and 3 1/2" tall.
