Richly hand carved about 1880 in the Renaissance manner this secretary desk from England has the original finish and hammered brass hardware.
Lively carving depicts heads of knights in armor, a face and a griffin. The old finish is well preserved with warm patina and various shrinkage separations from age, see photos.
Waxed and buffed, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its luster. The drop front rests on pull out supports, the lock works but doesn't latch. Inside are two secret drawers and a compartment underneath. The inside compartment key is a handle only, the lock does not work. Drawers have hand cut dovetail joints.
Dimensions of this historic country house desk is 37" wide, 20" deep, 41" tall and the writing surface is 31" high.
