A traditional Country French classic design tall case clock is signed "Fait a Boissy Le Chatel." About 30 years old, the original brochure from the maker, "S. A. Gillet Company" is included, with its charmingly mis- translated "King's Clockmaking" history.
The solid oak case is wonderfully made, all panels are raised and carved square wooden pegs secure the joints. Entirely original, the hand-rubbed satin finish is excellent.
The hand-painted dial is intact, with an embossed brass surround. The large solid brass pendulum is beautiful. Called a "Morbier" movement, the 8 day mechanism has a bell strike on the hour and half, and keeps excellent time.
It has been professionally cleaned and oiled. Measurements of this vintage French clock are 22" wide, 11" deep and 6' 10" tall.
