A lovely immigrant trunk or chest has a curved or dome top and original folk "rosemal" painting on the top. The stenciled address is worn and hard to read, see photo.
Carved of pine, this 1860 era historic furniture has hand-cut dovetails at the corners and is joined with wooden pegs instead of nails or screws. The subtle hand painting and monogram from Germany or Switzerland are beautiful.
There is warm patina to the original finish which is in very fine condition, plus lots of character - mars and wear. The wrought iron straps and handles appear original, the lock no longer works.
There is a shrinkage separation from age in the top, and dimensions of this picturesque antique are 41" long, 21" deep and 22" tall.
